Stories of Faith and Friendship - Part 2
Pete Bullette grew up in the small coal-mining town of West Frankfort, Illinois. He was working in public accounting at KPMG in St. Louis when a Chi Alpha speaker at church set him and his wife Amy on an unexpected path. On the drive home, they both sensed God calling them to campus ministry. They quit their jobs, interned with Chi Alpha at Georgetown, and then planted Chi Alpha at the University of Virginia. When they called their pastor to tell him, he said he already knew and had presented them to the missions board the night before.
Twenty-six years later, Pete joins Dick to reflect on the "Stories of Faith and Friendship" evening his team hosted two years ago. They chose the theme in response to what they saw in students after COVID: a generation shaped by smartphones and social media, facing high anxiety and loneliness. They wanted a night that met that need for friendship and pointed clearly to Jesus, with "no bait and switch."
Pete describes the venue, Old Cabell Hall. It sits at the foot of UVA's Lawn and has a replica of The School of Athens behind the stage. The words "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" are carved above the building. Years earlier, Pete had hoped the gospel would one day be shared inside. He also describes the rare standing ovation that night, the students who decided to take steps toward Jesus, and the full-circle moment of watching students hear Dick's stories the way Pete once heard them on cassette tapes in college.
Dick closes with two favorite quotes on story, from Ursula K. Le Guin and Madeleine L'Engle, and announces the upcoming release of the Stories of Faith and Friendship audiobook.

1
00:00:11.658 --> 00:00:15.701
Well, hello friends, this is Dick Foth with Stories from the Road, one more time.
2
00:00:16.302 --> 00:00:18.524
And I have a good friend with me today.
3
00:00:19.164 --> 00:00:20.465
His name is Pete Bulette.
4
00:00:20.545 --> 00:00:21.306
Pete, how are you?
5
00:00:21.866 --> 00:00:22.927
Doing well, doing well.
6
00:00:22.947 --> 00:00:23.708
Good to be with you, Dick.
7
00:00:23.828 --> 00:00:28.091
So, and I'm in Colorado, you are in Virginia, in Charlottesville.
8
00:00:29.077 --> 00:00:31.200
And the home of the University of Virginia.
9
00:00:31.260 --> 00:00:33.302
But you didn't always live in Virginia, right?
10
00:00:33.382 --> 00:00:37.206
I mean, tell me, my standard question is, where were you born and brought up?
11
00:00:37.667 --> 00:00:38.928
Can you give us a couple minutes on that?
12
00:00:38.948 --> 00:00:41.211
Well, I was born in Minnesota.
13
00:00:42.012 --> 00:00:42.372
Ah.
14
00:00:42.412 --> 00:00:45.576
Yeah, but I was brought up in southern Illinois.
15
00:00:45.596 --> 00:00:45.696
Yeah.
16
00:00:45.896 --> 00:00:54.803
Yeah, so I grew up in a small town called West Frankfort, Illinois, about 100 miles outside of St. Louis, and so carnal country.
17
00:00:55.563 --> 00:00:56.004
Yes.
18
00:00:56.244 --> 00:01:00.227
Yeah, I grew up where a small coal mining town in southern Illinois.
19
00:01:00.804 --> 00:01:01.284
Hmm.
20
00:01:02.105 --> 00:01:05.288
And it ended up going to university, getting into finance.
21
00:01:05.328 --> 00:01:07.771
Was it accounting?
22
00:01:07.951 --> 00:01:08.191
Yeah.
23
00:01:08.211 --> 00:01:08.751
Accounting.
24
00:01:09.312 --> 00:01:12.055
Yeah, I worked for KPMG in St. Louis.
25
00:01:12.695 --> 00:01:21.403
During the year that Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa were hitting all the home runs, and my office was just next to Bush Stadium.
26
00:01:21.423 --> 00:01:23.385
So it was an exciting time to be there.
27
00:01:23.405 --> 00:01:24.066
So for all of you?
28
00:01:25.047 --> 00:01:29.931
For all of you listening to this or watching this, you have to be of a certain age.
29
00:01:30.392 --> 00:01:34.556
Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa, just go with us on this.
30
00:01:35.197 --> 00:01:37.058
It was a great season.
31
00:01:37.499 --> 00:01:38.160
That was great.
32
00:01:39.241 --> 00:01:46.047
Well, you and I ran into each other now 30 years ago almost in Washington, D.C.,
33
00:01:46.928 --> 00:01:55.316
And you lead an entity, a faith-based group at the University of Virginia called Chi Alpha.
34
00:01:56.637 --> 00:01:58.919
How did you come to go?
35
00:01:58.940 --> 00:02:00.321
Strange phrase.
36
00:02:00.641 --> 00:02:09.730
How did you come to go to Charlottesville, Virginia from West Frankfort, Illinois to work with young people?
37
00:02:10.562 --> 00:02:16.669
Well, I mean, the short answer is, you know, the Holy Spirit directed our steps.
38
00:02:16.769 --> 00:02:29.182
The reason why I say that is because along the way, at each kind of pivotal point, there was a moment where there was just a God graciously by His Spirit, you know, dropped some seed or put up a...
39
00:02:29.903 --> 00:02:32.644
a big sign for us, whatever the case may be.
40
00:02:32.724 --> 00:02:41.986
And, and so we were, I was working in St. Louis in public accounting and frankly went to a church where this speaker from Chi Alpha was there.
41
00:02:42.106 --> 00:02:48.448
Amy and I, my wife, we were involved in Chi Alpha students and it was life-changing for us, but we never dreamed we would do it.
42
00:02:48.568 --> 00:02:50.129
I mean, never once had we talked about it.
43
00:02:50.649 --> 00:02:54.270
That night at the church, I started to sense that.
44
00:02:54.970 --> 00:02:56.891
that God wanted us to do Chi Alpha.
45
00:02:57.191 --> 00:03:01.514
And so I, on the drive home, I said, Hey, Amy, I think the Lord may want us to do Chi Alpha.
46
00:03:01.534 --> 00:03:02.514
And she said, me too.
47
00:03:02.554 --> 00:03:06.456
And I went, Oh boy, this is for real, you know?
48
00:03:07.417 --> 00:03:10.298
And then we, so we ended up quitting our jobs.
49
00:03:10.358 --> 00:03:16.962
Long story short, moved to Washington, DC, interned with the Chi Alpha at Georgetown for a year.
50
00:03:18.392 --> 00:03:28.759
And then again, while we were there making a decision what was next, we made a decision that felt very natural, pros, cons, and then, of course, covered in prayer.
51
00:03:29.280 --> 00:03:34.183
And then when we made the decision, we called our pastor here and said, hey, we're going to come plant Chi Alpha at the University of Virginia.
52
00:03:34.203 --> 00:03:35.244
And he said, I already knew that.
53
00:03:35.864 --> 00:03:41.408
He said, the Holy Spirit told me you're coming, and I presented you last night to the board for missionary support.
54
00:03:41.868 --> 00:03:42.248
Good grief.
55
00:03:42.268 --> 00:03:42.509
Yeah.
56
00:03:43.229 --> 00:03:47.277
I was like, well, hey, that's great confirmation.
57
00:03:47.357 --> 00:03:49.181
And so there you are.
58
00:03:49.241 --> 00:03:50.203
And you've been there now.
59
00:03:51.124 --> 00:03:51.545
How long?
60
00:03:51.826 --> 00:03:52.868
This is our 26th year.
61
00:03:52.928 --> 00:03:53.148
Yeah.
62
00:03:55.033 --> 00:03:57.274
And you still look like you're 31.
63
00:03:57.374 --> 00:03:59.234
This is not right.
64
00:04:00.654 --> 00:04:01.955
Well, I appreciate that.
65
00:04:01.995 --> 00:04:05.456
I don't know if everybody agree with you, but I guess students keep me young in some ways.
66
00:04:05.796 --> 00:04:06.996
There you go.
67
00:04:07.796 --> 00:04:12.257
So two years ago, October 7th, I came with a team.
68
00:04:15.098 --> 00:04:18.059
to do a thing called a storytelling evening.
69
00:04:18.099 --> 00:04:22.880
And I had called you and said, we're thinking about doing this thing in several places.
70
00:04:22.940 --> 00:04:29.921
I'd been encouraged by my son-in-law, Van, who folks may have already heard on a podcast, to think about this.
71
00:04:30.462 --> 00:04:32.922
And you were very kind.
72
00:04:34.403 --> 00:04:38.403
It seemed almost enthusiastic that that might happen.
73
00:04:39.124 --> 00:04:44.445
And so you helped us frame that night at the University of Virginia with a theme.
74
00:04:45.185 --> 00:04:53.347
And the theme that your team and you came up with was stories of faith and friendship.
75
00:04:54.887 --> 00:04:56.728
Talk to us about that.
76
00:04:57.068 --> 00:05:00.409
What was the genesis of that particular thing?
77
00:05:00.869 --> 00:05:03.849
Well, first of all, I will confirm I was enthusiastic.
78
00:05:03.929 --> 00:05:05.510
I thought we'd dream.
79
00:05:07.030 --> 00:05:10.511
Because, Dick, you may not know this or you may know this.
80
00:05:10.531 --> 00:05:19.254
Like, I had a dream of like just sitting in your house and having you tell stories to me, you know, because I'd only before we met, I'd only listened to cassette tapes.
81
00:05:19.274 --> 00:05:22.795
I'm like, wow, now he's coming here to just to tell stories.
82
00:05:22.815 --> 00:05:26.857
And so anyway, we're going to we're going to have to edit this part out.
83
00:05:27.517 --> 00:05:30.419
She goes, don't let Ruth hear this.
84
00:05:30.760 --> 00:05:31.901
She's going to roll her eyes.
85
00:05:31.921 --> 00:05:32.621
Oh, boy.
86
00:05:33.042 --> 00:05:34.323
Anyway, go ahead, Pete.
87
00:05:34.423 --> 00:05:35.183
Go ahead.
88
00:05:35.684 --> 00:05:37.265
So I was very enthusiastic.
89
00:05:37.305 --> 00:05:39.146
And as I shared with the team, they were as well.
90
00:05:39.206 --> 00:05:49.114
And so as we talked about possible topics and I kind of brought some discussions that you and I had had, we just landed on the theme of friendships.
91
00:05:49.835 --> 00:05:53.077
I think maybe first, of course, we wanted it to be Jesus centered.
92
00:05:53.097 --> 00:05:53.878
Mm hmm.
93
00:05:54.178 --> 00:05:56.340
And we didn't want any bait and switch of the night.
94
00:05:56.380 --> 00:05:58.582
Yes, this is about Jesus.
95
00:05:58.942 --> 00:06:06.049
And so we worked in the faith and friendship as our hope, if you would accept the challenge.
96
00:06:06.149 --> 00:06:06.950
And you did.
97
00:06:07.270 --> 00:06:20.462
And honestly, you know, it was a few years after COVID and we were seeing, you know, this generation that's been defined by the iPhone and social media and then,
98
00:06:21.316 --> 00:06:25.460
COVID and all that that did for social patterns and so on.
99
00:06:25.500 --> 00:06:35.230
And it's just like we were wrestling with like, I mean, there's anxiety that's high, there's loneliness that's high and how all these things come together.
100
00:06:35.250 --> 00:06:40.415
We felt like, honestly, if we had a night that really highlighted friendships and faith and how it's.
101
00:06:41.443 --> 00:06:57.649
would maybe bring intrigue of how Jesus intersects both of those worlds, of course, that it may hit a felt human need, you know, that we're making for friendship and in a way that would appeal to the heart and the head.
102
00:06:57.709 --> 00:07:01.771
And so maybe it'd be a bit of a draw and a way to introduce people.
103
00:07:01.911 --> 00:07:07.660
people to the person of Jesus in a way that maybe isn't always typical.
104
00:07:07.720 --> 00:07:17.654
And so, yeah, so I, you know, we were just kind of looking at what we were seeing in students and in our culture and felt like, wow, that would be a really meaningful and powerful night.
105
00:07:17.774 --> 00:07:18.035
So.
106
00:07:18.987 --> 00:07:29.890
Well, and I was, you know, you were kind enough over the years when we were in D.C. to invite us down every now and again to do things with the folks.
107
00:07:29.970 --> 00:07:32.091
And it's always totally selfish on my part.
108
00:07:32.371 --> 00:07:35.472
Go down there, get all jazzed up because you're with young people.
109
00:07:36.292 --> 00:07:43.414
But that night we had the event or you arranged for the event to be at Old Cobble Hall.
110
00:07:43.954 --> 00:07:45.515
And I shared a bit of this.
111
00:07:46.877 --> 00:07:55.341
in a previous podcast with van or son-in-law getting sort of his takeaways and what a, what a cool venue.
112
00:07:56.202 --> 00:08:02.865
And, and just the, uh, just the setting to me added something to talk to us about old cobble.
113
00:08:02.945 --> 00:08:06.167
And, and first of all, how, how did you do that?
114
00:08:06.307 --> 00:08:11.610
Because that, you know, you didn't, you don't just go sign up for old cobble a week at a time.
115
00:08:11.990 --> 00:08:13.651
Yeah, no, it's an honor to meet in
116
00:08:16.219 --> 00:08:24.867
it's at the end of the academical village at UVA where the lawn is on, you know, at the top is the rotunda, which is the library.
117
00:08:24.887 --> 00:08:26.848
And at the bottom is old Cabell hall.
118
00:08:26.908 --> 00:08:33.194
And, you know, it's a really, uh, really beautiful building with a, uh, uh,
119
00:08:34.155 --> 00:08:49.834
performance area in there and auditory matter that's really probably one of the gems of the university and so we were really honored to be able to reserve that and be able to host you there and you know in the backdrop behind you is this painting that's of
120
00:08:51.482 --> 00:08:53.203
I think it's called the School of Athens.
121
00:08:53.243 --> 00:08:56.545
Like it's a replica School of Athens behind you, the philosophers.
122
00:08:56.565 --> 00:08:58.066
And so that kind of gives you a sense.
123
00:08:58.126 --> 00:08:59.967
And, of course, pipe organ on the side.
124
00:09:00.028 --> 00:09:03.690
And so it has this really regal feel.
125
00:09:03.910 --> 00:09:08.533
And it's where the – I hate to say it this way.
126
00:09:08.893 --> 00:09:09.994
I don't know how I'll say it.
127
00:09:10.054 --> 00:09:11.835
The important people that come to UVA.
128
00:09:11.855 --> 00:09:12.375
Yeah, sure.
129
00:09:12.415 --> 00:09:12.876
Everybody's important.
130
00:09:12.896 --> 00:09:13.516
You know what I'm saying.
131
00:09:13.536 --> 00:09:14.377
Like the big names –
132
00:09:15.005 --> 00:09:15.766
Public people.
133
00:09:15.806 --> 00:09:16.006
Yeah.
134
00:09:16.026 --> 00:09:16.306
Yeah.
135
00:09:16.326 --> 00:09:25.096
The dignitaries and so on, you know, or, or the big author or the person who's making waves and cold, you know, when they come, they'll often be at old Cabell Hall.
136
00:09:25.156 --> 00:09:31.022
And like, I remember when Richard Dawkins came when I, when he, you know, was, uh, traveling around.
137
00:09:31.102 --> 00:09:35.947
And I remember when John Kerry was secretary of state and he came and spoke there and, um,
138
00:09:36.958 --> 00:09:41.122
We hosted John Lennox there one time for a Veritas forum, as I recall.
139
00:09:42.223 --> 00:09:52.412
And John, just for those folks who are watching or listening, John Lennox is an Oxford scholar who's sort of an apologist, is he not, for faith?
140
00:09:52.432 --> 00:09:54.614
Yeah, he's an Oxford mathematician.
141
00:09:54.634 --> 00:09:56.056
There we go.
142
00:09:56.256 --> 00:09:58.658
He's also an author and apologist.
143
00:09:58.698 --> 00:10:00.219
And so, anyways, it's kind of a—
144
00:10:01.520 --> 00:10:04.781
Important things happen there, I guess is a good way to say it.
145
00:10:05.301 --> 00:10:08.882
And so when we were able to secure that, I thought this would be really fantastic.
146
00:10:08.982 --> 00:10:13.263
And yeah, so it's a very meaningful place.
147
00:10:13.383 --> 00:10:18.045
Also outside of it is a Homer statue right outside.
148
00:10:18.585 --> 00:10:24.727
And then across the top of the building in Latin is this quote.
149
00:10:25.267 --> 00:10:28.988
I'm not for sure exactly how they decided to put this quote up there, but it says,
150
00:10:30.068 --> 00:10:33.229
and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
151
00:10:34.669 --> 00:10:42.311
And I remember the first time I saw it, I said, someday we're gonna be able to share the gospel and we're gonna share about Jesus in there, the truth, right?
152
00:10:42.911 --> 00:10:51.033
And so that night, as you shared stories, Jesus was made known and yeah.
153
00:10:51.233 --> 00:10:57.875
And the fulfillment of however that got up on top of the building, we were able to, cause I think we know the guy who said that, right?
154
00:10:58.656 --> 00:10:59.437
I think we do.
155
00:11:01.802 --> 00:11:07.775
Yeah, I'd be interested, and I don't want to take a lot of your time this afternoon, but I'd be interested in...
156
00:11:10.312 --> 00:11:11.994
You know, we were there for an hour.
157
00:11:12.234 --> 00:11:15.617
You were there for many hours setting up and taking down and all of that.
158
00:11:16.277 --> 00:11:23.304
But we were there for an hour, and we had some wonderful conversations with students after and so forth.
159
00:11:23.464 --> 00:11:31.191
What were some of your takeaways or maybe things that were said to you that you could share?
160
00:11:31.671 --> 00:11:47.001
because we're talking about this right now because we're getting ready to release this audiobook of that night called Stories of Faith and Friendship, and it'll be on any audible or any audio platform that folks choose to listen to, Spotify or whatever.
161
00:11:48.902 --> 00:11:55.727
But hearing it, even hearing the event, which they will, isn't like being in the space, is it?
162
00:11:55.767 --> 00:11:56.327
Right, right.
163
00:11:56.347 --> 00:11:59.329
And so, anyway, takeaways on your part.
164
00:11:59.770 --> 00:12:03.838
Well, you know, I think I would give you my general impression first.
165
00:12:03.858 --> 00:12:07.926
I mean, for me, in some ways, it was a bit of a,
166
00:12:09.253 --> 00:12:12.436
like, I'm so honored to be here right now kind of moment.
167
00:12:12.556 --> 00:12:24.206
It was like the wisdom and faith of a generation being handed down to a new generation through the power of story.
168
00:12:25.226 --> 00:12:30.971
And of course, you know, story's such a powerful medium and our culture uses it in many ways.
169
00:12:31.031 --> 00:12:31.191
But
170
00:12:31.992 --> 00:12:40.317
storytelling in the way you do it is almost an art that is in some ways hard to find these days.
171
00:12:40.357 --> 00:12:56.026
And I think it was the message and the messenger that there was a certain power of what I sense the Lord was doing in that moment, because it was a generation with a lot of water under the bridge who's...
172
00:12:57.797 --> 00:12:58.397
Exactly.
173
00:12:58.977 --> 00:13:04.459
Who is connecting so beautifully and meaningfully and powerfully with a younger generation.
174
00:13:04.499 --> 00:13:13.582
It was kind of, yeah, like a sage coming to, you know, to a new generation and sharing truth and wrapped in such a.
175
00:13:14.779 --> 00:13:16.000
through the power of storytelling.
176
00:13:16.040 --> 00:13:18.862
And so for me, I was like, wow, this is really amazing.
177
00:13:18.882 --> 00:13:20.963
And I guess it just felt really rich to me.
178
00:13:22.164 --> 00:13:28.348
And like the deep roots that this generation longs for, but often feels the lack of.
179
00:13:29.148 --> 00:13:33.491
And I think that was reflected in the sense in the room.
180
00:13:33.511 --> 00:13:37.254
Like I think everybody understood this was a moment, an opportunity to lean in.
181
00:13:37.294 --> 00:13:39.355
And so I felt like everybody was leaned in and locked in.
182
00:13:39.915 --> 00:13:43.678
And then at the end, there was a standing ovation.
183
00:13:44.897 --> 00:13:54.985
And I've been on campus or grounds here at UVA for, you know, this is my 26th year, and there are only a couple times where I remember standing ovation.
184
00:13:56.185 --> 00:14:04.912
And I felt like that was their way of sharing their deep appreciation and the sense of how meaningful and significant the night was today.
185
00:14:05.212 --> 00:14:10.176
And and because, you know, every week we don't give standing ovations, Dick.
186
00:14:10.196 --> 00:14:13.339
I don't know if you knew.
187
00:14:13.759 --> 00:14:16.221
If these folks knew how much money I paid.
188
00:14:18.783 --> 00:14:29.472
So so, you know, and then, of course, over time, I remember us chatting afterwards and even hearing some of the things that students came up and told you that were so meaningful.
189
00:14:29.492 --> 00:14:29.592
Yeah.
190
00:14:30.854 --> 00:14:46.512
People who are, as a result of the night, saying, yeah, I think I want to take some steps of walking with Jesus and into this and others who had been going through some significant things in their life who found it very difficult.
191
00:14:47.373 --> 00:15:12.324
um a healing night in some ways you know and and you know i i just feel like uh it was a night where met a lot of people where they were in their unique place and that's i think the power of story and i mean that's how god has used you telling stories in my own life that there was it it's just a it was a beautiful way to kind of bring the truth of the gospel
192
00:15:14.729 --> 00:15:19.773
deeper in some way that resonated in my heart.
193
00:15:20.053 --> 00:15:24.716
And I felt like our students were having an experience I had whenever I was a college student listening to your tapes.
194
00:15:24.917 --> 00:15:28.599
And so that was kind of a full circle moment for me.
195
00:15:29.880 --> 00:15:32.022
And so it was a very special and rich night.
196
00:15:34.007 --> 00:15:37.748
You know, I think you're, well, first of all, thank you for your kind words.
197
00:15:37.828 --> 00:15:50.312
And, you know, you guys, from a structural perspective, getting things together and getting the word out and all of that, that was amazing to recognize.
198
00:15:50.552 --> 00:15:59.655
I wasn't there when you were doing all of it, but just recognize how much that takes, excuse me just a second, folks.
199
00:15:59.755 --> 00:16:00.615
Yeah.
200
00:16:03.913 --> 00:16:06.675
I have a ringtone on my phone.
201
00:16:07.015 --> 00:16:08.636
Could you hear that where you were, Pete?
202
00:16:09.136 --> 00:16:12.318
I could, yeah.
203
00:16:12.719 --> 00:16:15.541
That's the sheik of Araby from A River Runs Through It.
204
00:16:15.881 --> 00:16:17.722
You talk about an adventure.
205
00:16:18.062 --> 00:16:20.103
I think I heard that on the radio on my way in today.
206
00:16:24.674 --> 00:16:26.716
I think we're going to leave that little bit in too.
207
00:16:26.796 --> 00:16:30.740
You know, we're just kidding about editing things.
208
00:16:32.862 --> 00:16:35.724
So I can't remember where it was.
209
00:16:35.864 --> 00:16:40.008
The effort it takes to present an evening like that
210
00:16:41.027 --> 00:16:42.168
is enormous.
211
00:16:42.248 --> 00:16:51.975
And it's like with anything, most of us go to receive something, but we don't recognize what's behind the scenes.
212
00:16:52.015 --> 00:17:00.381
So please, two years after the fact, even I know I said it then, but thanks again to your team for all they did to help that happen.
213
00:17:03.243 --> 00:17:05.065
The point you make about story
214
00:17:07.816 --> 00:17:22.925
is, you know, I feel like a Johnny OneNote because I just see not only do we have story in our DNA or where we are, our brains are framed to receive it and to tell it.
215
00:17:24.086 --> 00:17:25.147
There's something about it.
216
00:17:25.227 --> 00:17:25.247
I
217
00:17:27.367 --> 00:17:28.527
quotes that I really like.
218
00:17:28.627 --> 00:17:34.029
Ursula K. Le Guin, who's now gone, was a, I think, a sci-fi writer, lived in Portland, Oregon.
219
00:17:34.269 --> 00:17:49.813
And she has a phrase that I saw written, that is, there have been great civilizations that did not have the wheel, but there have been no civilizations that did not tell stories.
220
00:17:51.545 --> 00:17:59.091
And then the author, Madeline Lingle, says Jesus was not a theologian.
221
00:17:59.631 --> 00:18:02.353
You know, I read that, and I'm going, whoa, easy there.
222
00:18:02.894 --> 00:18:05.716
He said Jesus was not a theologian.
223
00:18:05.776 --> 00:18:08.118
He was God who told stories.
224
00:18:23.466 --> 00:18:27.268
sit with someone for whom we are pieces of each other's stories.
225
00:18:28.028 --> 00:18:29.329
And that's a plus.
226
00:18:29.369 --> 00:18:32.250
I think both of us like that part.
227
00:18:32.971 --> 00:18:34.731
And so I'm grateful.
228
00:18:35.332 --> 00:18:37.553
Thank you for an evening of faith and friendship.
229
00:18:37.773 --> 00:18:41.975
And we're going to be releasing this audio book,
230
00:18:42.903 --> 00:18:48.387
I think around October, which is in the middle of what UVA calls reading days.
231
00:18:49.267 --> 00:18:54.410
Are you familiar with, I mean, you've been there quarter of a century, dude.
232
00:18:54.771 --> 00:18:55.851
What are reading days?
233
00:18:56.392 --> 00:19:02.356
It's called, well, yeah, reading days is fall break that sounds really sophisticated.
234
00:19:04.958 --> 00:19:08.462
And we're just going to the beach, hanging out.
235
00:19:09.984 --> 00:19:10.384
Yeah.
236
00:19:11.105 --> 00:19:11.485
Okay.
237
00:19:11.886 --> 00:19:16.751
Well, anyway, we're gonna release it then just cause it sounded cool to do it.
238
00:19:17.372 --> 00:19:18.353
Yeah.
239
00:19:18.393 --> 00:19:20.195
And we'll go from there.
240
00:19:20.595 --> 00:19:20.896
Yeah.
241
00:19:21.496 --> 00:19:24.059
Thanks a million, Pete, for being part of this.
242
00:19:24.820 --> 00:19:25.821
It's a joy, Dick.
243
00:19:25.861 --> 00:19:26.661
Truly an honor.
244
00:19:26.981 --> 00:19:32.605
And really grateful that we were able to connect to see that happen.
245
00:19:32.685 --> 00:19:35.267
And my team worked hard.
246
00:19:35.287 --> 00:19:39.550
So shout out to them for all their hard work to make it a great night.
247
00:19:40.110 --> 00:19:43.352
And thank you for coming and investing in our students.
248
00:19:43.492 --> 00:19:47.615
And I hope that the audio book will bless a lot of people for a long time.
249
00:19:48.981 --> 00:19:50.063
That's wonderful.
250
00:19:50.603 --> 00:19:56.330
Well, this is Pete Bulette in Charlottesville, Virginia, Dick Foth in Windsor, Colorado.
251
00:19:57.111 --> 00:19:57.572
We're done.
252
00:19:57.892 --> 00:19:58.733
We're signing off.
253
00:19:58.953 --> 00:19:59.955
I'll catch you later, Pete.
254
00:20:00.435 --> 00:20:00.796
Okay.
255
00:20:00.996 --> 00:20:02.197
God bless you.
256
00:20:02.217 --> 00:20:02.518
Bye-bye.
